About

In an eclectic celebration of universal sounds, Orang Orang Drum Theatre (OODT) invites audiences to rayau (wander) and lepak (hang out) together in “A concert to “浪(lang4) x lepak”. Through energetic performances of shigu, gamelan, jidor, gendang, didgeridoo and more, the troupe is set to explore the diverse sounds of global cultures, with Rosemary Joel and Gideon Alu8khan Chen on vocals and sape and shamisen. What’s more, OODT will also be ‘drumming’ their pandemic anxiety that hovers somewhere between the frustration and surreality of lockdown through original pieces like “People. Cars. Buildings.”; “Ado sorang sibuk sangat”; “Tuyang sit in the corner”; “Roar”; “Bakar”; “Bayang berdengung”; and “Blossom Bunga Raya”. The award-winning drum troupe clinched the coveted Port Dickson Beach Drums and Percussion Challenge in 2017 and has performed in Indonesia, Thailand, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Poland, Japan, Korea, France and China. Make time to be dazzled.

About Orang Orang Drum Theatre

“Orang” means people in the Malay language, and at its heart, the Orang Orang Drum Theatre (OODT) aims to bring the arts to the people by drumming the tales of Malaysian and international societies through enigmatic wind instruments and the rhythmic beat of drums. OODT  was founded in 2013 by Boyz Chew, Zyee Leow, and Damien Leow; since then, it has staged its virtuosity in many international countries and has grown to be synonymous with energy and creativity. Bringing a team with them, they have participated in international music festivals such as Sziget Festival 2019, WOMADELAIDE 2020, Venice Theatre Arts Festival, Venice Open Stage, Belgium and Germany Dance Festival Danse en Ville. In recent years, they have toured many cultural and dance arts festivals in Europe, such as France, Hungary and Serbia. Through interactions with various cultures locally and abroad, they have found the balance between tradition and contemporary.
