About

Every year Malaysians mismanage 25kg of plastic waste, a large percentage of which ends up in the sea where they grow up to murder turtles. This stops here.

This Merdeka, instead of buying single use plastic flags, let’s make our own, environmentally friendly Malaysian flag. Malaysian artist Mr A. Zaki Hadri, the creative genius behind Ikan Busuk Dari Kepala and Pn Enah, the artist behind Enah Art & Craft will conduct a workshop on eco-printing. Eco printing involves chemical and heat-driven botanical transfer process using 100% natural, reused dye vats. The technique begins by scouring and pre-mordanting natural textile fibers with metal salts or natural tannins—such as alum or soy milk—to prepare the protein or cellulose bonds to fix plant pigments. Botanicals like leaves and flowers are meticulously arranged vein-side down on the pre-treated fabric to ensure direct contact with pigment sources. The textile is then tightly folded, rolled over a central core, and bound with cord to create high mechanical pressure. Steam or heat applied to the tightly wrapped bundle breaks down the plant cells, inducing heat transfer and chemical bonding that releases natural tannins and pigments directly onto the fabric. This creates permanent, high-definition contact prints mirroring the precise organic shapes, textures, and silhouettes of the leaves.

Come explore your artistic side and save flipper at the same time. Participants will be provided with materials including a totebag which they will be able to bring home
