A Stage through Time

A piano phrase from another century.

A Broadway melody.

A song you may already know by heart.

For one afternoon, they share the same stage.

A Stage Through Time brings together music from different periods and styles, performed by the teachers of Somerset Music. The programme moves from classical repertoire to musical theatre, jazz and contemporary music, not as a history lesson, but simply as music that continues to be performed, interpreted and heard in new ways.

This time, the teachers take the stage

Most days at Somerset Music our teachers are on the other side of the performance.

They listen. They demonstrate. They work through a difficult passage again. They help students prepare for examinations, performances and sometimes simply the satisfaction of playing something well.

On 26 September, the roles change.

For this recital, our teachers step onto the stage themselves, not only as teachers, but as musicians.

That is really where A Stage Through Time begins: different people, different repertoire and different periods of music meeting in one room, at one particular moment.

All net proceeds from A Stage Through Time will go to MYReaders.

MYReaders works to improve children's literacy through structured and sustainable reading programmes, particularly for children who need additional support in developing their reading skills. 

For Somerset Music, this is simply an opportunity to do something we already care about, perform and teach, while allowing the afternoon to contribute to another form of learning beyond our own classrooms.
