Novel Ecosystems: Finding Value in Invasive Species

The introduction of invasive species is an example of that. While invasive species do bring harm to local ecosystems, what often goes undiscussed is how some also contribute to the functioning of these ecosystems.

Join us in an exploratory session where we ask what it means for invasive species to exist in our local ecosystems and examine what we value in urban ecosystems. What if invasive species were not simply a driver of environmental degradation, but rather a symptom of it? Together, we’ll weigh the services and disservices each invasive species brings, and consider how this understanding could inform the management of invasive species population, or even the ecosystem itself.
