Project Seaview: The Great Seawall of Japan - A Photo Exhibition by Chai Ming Yang

  Project Sewall began with a simple question: How do people continue to live alongside one of nature’s most destructive forces?

Travelling through the Tōhoku region, Chai encountered an extensive network of seawalls that have profoundly reshaped the relationship between people and the sea. Coming from Malaysia, where the sea is often associated with beauty and leisure, Chai has found himself drawn to this landscape where the ocean is both life-giving and deeply feared.

"With Project Seaview, I document these monumental structures and invite viewers to reflect on the complex balance between safety and sacrifice, and on how architecture can both preserve life and reshape our connection to place."
