About

Comedy Gala Night brings together 8 of Malaysia’s most celebrated comedians for one explosive evening of laughter, energy, and unforgettable punchlines. This special showcase features a powerhouse lineup spanning different styles, languages, and perspectives—delivering a truly diverse comedy experience on one stage.

Headlining the night is the Queen of Comedy, Joanne Kam, alongside heavy-hitters like Kavin Jay, Papi Zak, Shamaine Othman, Andrew Netto, Fattah Azeem, MAD SABAH, and Chiew Ruoh Peng (周若鹏). From sharp observational humour and cultural satire to bold storytelling and high-energy stand-up, each comedian brings their own unique flavour to the show.

Expect a fast-paced rollercoaster of laughs as these seasoned performers take turns lighting up the stage, feeding off the crowd, and pushing comedy to its limits. Whether you’re a long-time comedy fan or new to the scene, this is a rare chance to see some of the country’s best acts sharing one unforgettable night.

Comedy Gala Night is all about big names, big laughs, and even bigger moments—don’t miss it.

Joanne Kam is a comedian, actress, and host. Rising to fame in KL's first cabaret club Boom Boom Room in the early 90s, she has gone on to star and produce in countless productions through the decades, bringing her signature acerbic wit with her on every sparkly stage across Southeast Asia and Australia.

Notable performances include an award-winning role in HBO’s Grisse, the critically-acclaimed autobiographical show La La Lian, multiple features on Comedy Central Asia, and bringing her one woman show to both Fringe Festivals in Perth and Adelaide. She was also invited to perform for the prestigious Melbourne International Comedy Festival. On the corporate field, she is a sought after emcee as her crowd work is impeccable, bringing life to events.

Shamaine Othman is a seasoned performer with over 17 years of experience across the Malaysian and Singaporean stage and screen industries. Known for her playful yet assured style, she brings a sharp edge to both stand-up and improv, earning a strong reputation across the region.

She has performed with AIIA Improv, Malaysia’s longest-running improv troupe, and appeared on comedy stages throughout Malaysia and Singapore, including the prestigious Kings & Queens Comedy Asia at The Esplanade, Singapore.

Shamaine has opened for internationally acclaimed comedians such as Ronny Chieng and Gina Yashere. In 2022, she premiered her debut solo special Oh, No She Didn’t to sold-out audiences in Kuala Lumpur.

Beyond performing, she actively contributes to the growth of the local comedy scene through Test is Best, a bi-weekly work-in-progress stand-up room at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre. In 2026, she reached a new milestone with her debut at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Fattah Azeem is a stand-up comedian from Malaysia. You might recognise him as the guy in the white hoodie.

He does deadpan, slow burn comedy where he talks like he’s not in a rush, but still somehow lands the joke.

He performs in English and Bahasa Malaysia, mostly starting from everyday situations, then taking them somewhere unexpected.

He is active in the Kuala Lumpur comedy scene, performing at venues like BoboKL and various open mics, where he continues trying out new material and figuring things out on stage.

Chiew Ruoh Peng (周若鹏) is a multi-talented Malaysian writer, poet, and stand-up comedian who transitioned from the literary world to the stage in 2023. Known for his sharp, self-deprecating "mid-life" humor, he has become a leading figure in the Mandarin-language comedy circuit.

His debut solo tour, “Mid-aged Wiki” (中年维基), was a sold-out success, followed by acclaimed specials like “Tough, Man!” and “Troublemaker” (滋事份子). A regular at venues like BoboKL and klpac, he frequently headlines experimental shows and collaborative sets with fellow comedians like Jerome How.

Beyond comedy, Ruoh Peng is a celebrated man of letters, having won prestigious honors like the Hua Zong Literary Award. As the head of Mentor Publishing, he balances his roles as an author, entrepreneur, and performer, blending literary wit with relatable, honest observations about the absurdities of aging and everyday life.

Kavin Jay is one of Southeast Asia’s most in-demand comedians and a key figure in Malaysia’s modern comedy movement. Known for his rapid-fire delivery and grumpy yet charming stage persona, he brings a unique intensity that consistently gets audiences laughing, no matter where they’re from.

His comedy blends bold, politically incorrect observations with sharp takes on life, love, and everyday frustrations, delivered with honesty and edge.

A seasoned international performer, Kavin has entertained audiences across the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, India, Hong Kong, and beyond. His humour cuts across cultures, resonating widely through its wit, relatability, and unapologetic perspective on the world.

Mad Sabah (Achmad Rusli), also known as Kunakian Mad Sabah, is a stand-up comedian from Kunak, Sabah. He began his comedy journey in 2016 and quickly established himself as a regular on the Kuala Lumpur comedy circuit.

He has appeared in KOMEDIRI with Harith Iskander, Sembang Teh Tarik Kaw with Dato’ AC Mizal, and was the first runner-up in Astro’s Lawak Solo. Mad Sabah has also competed in Maharaja Lawak Mega 2017, one of Malaysia’s biggest comedy competitions.

A seasoned performer, he has shared the stage with well-known comedians such as Douglas Lim, Phua Chu Kang (Singapore), and Daliso Chaponda (UK), continuing to build his presence in the regional comedy scene.

Papi Zak has firmly established himself as one of the “golden boys” of the Malaysian comedy circuit—and quite literally, one of the biggest personalities the country has to offer. With over 16 years of experience writing, performing, and doing stand-up comedy, he continues to deliver his signature blend of quirky humour and sharp observations on the absurdities of everyday life. His live shows are high-energy, engaging, and widely enjoyed by audiences of all ages, making his performances a consistent crowd favourite.

Andrew Netto is one of Malaysia’s standout comedians, with strong success across both the local and international comedy scene. He began his journey in 2009 under the mentorship of Harith Iskander, starting out as a 19-year-old college student and quickly rising through the ranks of the comedy circuit.

Since then, Andrew has shared the stage with seasoned international comedians and consistently held his own with confidence and charisma. Notable highlights include performing alongside Ahmed Ahmed and Maz Jobrani in 2011, followed by a major appearance with Russell Peters in 2012 in front of a crowd of 8,000 people.

Known for his sharp timing and engaging stage presence, Andrew continues to be a strong and respected voice in Malaysian comedy.
