About
Like an ostrich egg; large, heavy, and often buried... these stories reflect emotions that are rarely spoken but deeply felt. Across four distinct narratives, the characters navigate insecurity, physical suffering, heartbreak and the pain of longing, each choosing different ways to survive; through humour, distraction, imagination or art. Together, the plays reveal that pain is not always loud or visible, sometimes it hides in laughter, denial, or quiet yearning. In cracking open these hidden struggles, Ostrich Muttai invites audiences to recognise the shared, human instinct to endure and to heal, even in the most unexpected ways.
Actors: Piravina, Nandagopal, Deena Dakshini, Perassath
Playlets:
Pothikko, Paduthukko: Directed by Yuthes Umadevi Navarathinam
Nirmala navigates body insecurity, dating anxiety, and post-surgery vulnerability. Through conversations with her own mid voice (Nimmy), she confronts the fear of being truly seen, physically and emotionally. A date becomes the turning point where she must choose between hiding in darkness or allowing herself to be seen fully, scar and all.
Ostrich Muttai: Directed by Santhiagu Thiagu
A woman cycles through distraction; partying, intimacy, performance, chaos while going through physical pain. The metaphor of the ostrich laying an egg represents silent suffering.
Naduvula Konjam... Kaanom: Directed by Yanu
Divya lives alone, but she's not really alone. She has an imaginary boyfriend with whom she shares her happiness and sadness. All hell breaks loose when her imaginary boyfriend goes missing one day.
Gaaji: Directed by Thivaraggan
A rockstar, waiting for his break break, narrates his real-life journey and where he finds inspiration to write songs. He tells the story through song parodies and spoken word. He examines independence fatigue, artistic obsession and the silent pain of waiting for your calling in life.
