Synopsis:

The “Wind Phone” is a real telephone booth in the town of Otsuchi in Iwate prefecture.

It’s not connected to any phone lines. But ever since the Great East Japan Earthquake disaster, over 30,000 people have come to this place. They all have loved ones they want to talk to. They want to say goodbye to their family members, who should be there with them. For those people who are living with such sadness, there is a movie that will be softly, gently by their side.

Haru is a high school student from Otsuchi who was affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster. She goes to live with her aunt in Hiroshima, but her heart remains in Otsuchi. She begins to hitchhike all the way back to her home town. She meets, travels, and parts with many different people along her journey. And what kind of scenery does Haru see?

In 2011, Otsuchi resident and garden designer Itaru Sasaki installed the “Wind Phone” in his home garden, inspired by his desire to talk with his deceased cousin one more time. Gradually, people began to know of it as ‘the phone connected to heaven’, and now many people come just to visit it.
