Automata: Simple Mechanical Toy Workshop

The word Automata comes from the Greek word “Automatas" which refers to mechanical devices that can move. By the 20th century, artists in the UK began crafting small-scale mechanical figures with artistic and everyday elements, bringing this art form closer to the public. In this workshop, The Art BaiDuRen will guide participants to create their own automata using simplified techniques and paper-based materials—making it easy and fun for anyone to craft a unique moving figure of their own.

Session 1: 4pm - 5pm
Session 2: 6pm - 7pm
Session 3: 8:30pm - 9:30pm

Automata

[Walk-In] All Day: Screen Printing Experience

It’s time to get your hands dirty!

Art BaiDuRen will be running silkscreen printing experience for festival goers at YSDAF 2025 Urban Tour where you will not only be able to create special memories, but you will also be able to keep them!

Their team is transforming YSDAF’s key visual design into a silkscreen printing template. Participants will be guided through the process of screen printing and be able to print the festival visual onto their own cotton T-shirts, creating their very own limited-edition YSDAF souvenir!

Participants must bring their own light-coloured cotton T-shirts for the printing. T-shirts are not provided by the facilitators.

Ages: 7 years old and above

About Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival

After two months of Kampung Tour to five states around Peninsular Malaysia, Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival 2025 will finally be kicking off its much-anticipated Urban Tour from June to August 2025.

This time, festival goers will have three chances to catch YSDAF at three different locations around Klang Valley which means triple the fun and triple the excitement!

YSDAF 2025 Urban Tour begins at KL East Mall on 14 June, followed by PARC (Subang Jaya) on 5 July and, finally, Elmina Lakeside Mall on 9 August. Everyone is invited!

Like past festivals, YSDAF 2025 will feature bite-sized performances by Malaysian artistes across different genres, from the traditional to the contemporary, from music and dance to theatre and visual arts. Apart from its scale, what sets YSDAF apart is that it also offers a highly interactive experience so you will have the chance to get your hands dirty, pick up a new skill or craft your own masterpiece at one of its workshops.

The highlight of the Urban Tour are its anchor performances by its programme partners Young KL Singers, MyDance Alliance and Orang Orang Drum Theatre. Apart from these highlights, festival goers can look forward to a unique festival experience at each location as the programming ls largely different with a different lineup of artistes and acts.
