Ikko Tamura of the Dairakudakan butoh dance company was inspired by the natural features of the local environment to create this piece. Performers from Tajima Kanjyakuro, Toyooka’s local butoh company, will share the stage with Dairakudakan members!

You are invited on a journey that transcends time and space, one that explores the origins of Kinosaki Onsen and its 1300-year-old history.

Come experience a one-of-a-kind dance portrayed by physical bodies freed from the constraints of daily life. Featuring a special guest performance by Akaji Maro.

Ikko Tamura
1998: Joined Dairakudakan and studied under Akaji Maro, performing in all subsequent Dairakudakan productions

2002: Released “Zattoh Libertine,” winning the 34th Dance Critics Society of Japan New Artist Award

2008: Studied in France under the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists.

In 2022, Tamura released “Butoh Tengu Geijutsu-ron [Butoh tengu art theory],” for which he received the 2022 (73rd) Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists.

Tamura is passionate about creating works that incorporate regional culture and natural features, consistently presenting his own unique productions. He also conducts well-received dance workshops and outreach programs in numerous locations for participants ranging from children to the elderly.

Toyooka Creative Community Butoh Company: Tajima Kanjyakuro
Based on the idea that the foundation of local culture lies in citizens directly engaging in creative activities, Toyooka Creative Community Plaza launched a butoh project in 2017 that rebranded itself as a butoh company in 2022. The company currently boasts a range of local residents from diverse backgrounds, including members in their twenties and those in their seventies. Tajima Kanjyakuro has invited Ikko Tamura from Dairakudakan as part of a continuous effort to seek the pinnacle of physical expression. Toyooka is working to reintroduce the kanjaku (stork), a symbol of the region, into the wild.
