About
Got some clothes lying around at home that could use some love and perhaps also find a new life? Fashion Revolution Malaysia is running both creative mending and sashiko mending workshops at YSDAF to teach you how to patch up your clothes. Apart from that, they are also running a clothes swap and a communal weaving activity.
Creative Mending Workshop
Session 1: 11am - 12pm
Session 2: 3pm - 4pm
Whether it’s a torn pocket, a broken seam or something you’ve just fallen out of love with—we’ll bring new life (and love) into pieces you already own. Creative mending is a way to reconnect with our garments. Add playful, personal touches to worn or well-loved clothes; using basic stitches, buttons, fabric scraps, and colourful threads, we’ll create patterns that turn flaws into features, wear into stories, and the ordinary into something uniquely yours.
Participants to bring:
• Garments you’d like to repair, refresh, or personalise
• Scraps, buttons, ribbons, or any materials you’d love to sew on
• Your own sewing kit
For Ages: 16 years old and above
Sashiko Mending Workshop (12pm - 1pm)
Step into the slow, meditative art of sashiko, where every stitch tells a story and every mend becomes a celebration of care. In this workshop, you’ll trace the roots of this traditional Japanese craft, learning simple, elegant stitching techniques that turn wear and tear into beauty. Guided gently through each step, you’ll explore classic patterns, practice mindful sewing, and begin mending a beloved garment with your own hands. Along the way, you’ll gather tips, inspiration, and the quiet satisfaction of breathing new life into fabric. No experience needed — just your hands, your heart, and something ready for renewal.
Participants to bring:
• A garment you'd like to mend (natural fabrics like denim, cotton, or linen work best)
• Optional: fabric scraps you'd love to incorporate
All other materials; sashiko needles, thread, and cloth, will be provided.
For Ages: 16 years old and above
Communal Weaving Interactive Installation (All Day Long)
Festival goers are invited to contribute to a collective weaving piece by looming discarded yarn onto a communal loom.
A large-scale, collaborative weaving installation crafted entirely from discarded textiles and plastic waste. This immersive, hands-on activity invites participants to reconnect with the art of making by engaging in the most basic form of fabric creation while reimagining the possibilities of waste materials.
No pre-registration required.
For Ages: 12 years old and above
🔔 IMPORTANT:
Those who have pre-registered must show up at the workshop location at least 15 min. prior to the workshop time. Otherwise your spot will be released.

About Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival
After two months of Kampung Tour to five states around Peninsular Malaysia, Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival 2025 will finally be kicking off its much-anticipated Urban Tour from June to August 2025.
This time, festival goers will have three chances to catch YSDAF at three different locations around Klang Valley which means triple the fun and triple the excitement!
YSDAF 2025 Urban Tour begins at KL East Mall on 14 June, followed by PARC (Subang Jaya) on 5 July and, finally, Elmina Lakeside Mall on 9 August. Everyone is invited!
Like past festivals, YSDAF 2025 will feature bite-sized performances by Malaysian artistes across different genres, from the traditional to the contemporary, from music and dance to theatre and visual arts. Apart from its scale, what sets YSDAF apart is that it also offers a highly interactive experience so you will have the chance to get your hands dirty, pick up a new skill or craft your own masterpiece at one of its workshops.
The highlight of the Urban Tour are its anchor performances by its programme partners Young KL Singers, MyDance Alliance and Orang Orang Drum Theatre. Apart from these highlights, festival goers can look forward to a unique festival experience at each location as the programming ls largely different with a different lineup of artistes and acts.
