Luvenia Kalia is a multidisciplinary artist with movement as her primary art form. Aside from her ongoing independent artistic career, Luvenia is also the Arts and CultureProducer at Maitree House, an immersive storytelling XR company based in Australia and Asia. She holds a Diploma in Dance from Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore and aBachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) with a concentration in Performance and Choreography from Slippery Rock University, PA, USA. Upon graduation, she was awarded the ThomCobb Award, a monetary award given to a selected senior dance major "that shows promise to be successful in the field”. She co-founded the Multidisciplinary ArtsCollective (MAC), an organization based in Slippery Rock that serves as a networking platform to encourage artists to collaborate across disciplines on a student level.
Luvenia committed a part of her collegiate experience to an independent study on music creation and music for dance relationships with composer and musician, AndrewHasenpflug. She also had the privilege of starring in Marta Renzi’s dance film, WhereLove Leads that has premiered in several international film festivals around the globe.Her most recent work involves choreographing, producing and performing in a PoeticDocumentary entitled, SKIN. SKIN is an exploration of culture, race, bodies and identity through dance, theater, music and film, performed and produced by a team of multi-disciplinary Malaysian artists that was well received by local and international audience members.
Luvenia merges her formal dance training with the human experience and movement drawn from ritual and daily life. She advocates for the devising process and incorporation of improvisation techniques in performance making and choreography.Currently she is on a journey of exploring the extent of her artistic ability by diving into acting for film, voice acting and exploring the art of Immersive storytelling experiences.
