Tanjai Kamalaa Indira Dance School (TKI) is one of Malaysia’s most prestigious institutions dedicated to the art of Bharathanatyam, with a remarkable legacy spanning six decades. Established in 1966 by sisters Guru Kamalaa and Guru Indira Manikam, the school has become a beacon of excellence in Indian classical dance, nurturing generations of dancers while preserving the rich traditions of Bharathanatyam through education, performance, and cultural outreach.
Recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the Longest Operating Dance Training School in Malaysia, TKI has trained thousands of students across five generations and has become synonymous with artistic excellence, discipline, and innovation. The institution is widely celebrated for its signature large-scale dance theatre productions, having successfully staged more than 26 acclaimed thematic productions that seamlessly blend classical Bharatanatyam with compelling storytelling, original choreography, powerful music, and spectacular stage productions.
This year, TKI proudly celebrates a historic milestone as the first dance school in Malaysia to commemorate its Diamond Jubilee (60th Anniversary). This landmark achievement reflects six decades of unwavering dedication to preserving and elevating the art of Bharatanatyam while inspiring new generations of dancers, audiences, and cultural enthusiasts.
Today, TKI continues to uphold its mission of preserving tradition while embracing creativity, producing world-class performances that celebrate India’s rich cultural heritage and showcase the timeless beauty and relevance of Bharatanatyam on the modern stage.
