Life Drawing Spotlight - July 2026

Join us for a special edition of Life Drawing Spotlight, featuring a Belly Dancer in full costume as our model for the evening.

This session offers artists the chance to study a subject rich in movement, texture, and expression. Observe the interplay of flowing fabrics, decorative costume details, graceful gestures, and dynamic poses as you develop your drawing practice through direct observation.

Whether you're interested in capturing anatomy, gesture, costume design, movement, or simply enjoying the process of sketching, this session provides plenty of inspiration. The model will pose in a variety of timed poses, allowing participants to explore both quick gesture sketches and longer studies.

Artists of all experience levels are welcome. Bring your favourite drawing materials and work in any style or medium you prefer. If you're new to life drawing, this is a friendly and supportive environment to learn and experiment.

Spend a relaxing evening drawing alongside fellow artists, sketchers, and creative enthusiasts at Temu House.

Price: RM100/pax

Basic art supplies like newsprint papers, charcoal, soft pastel, graphite pencils, drawing boards and easels are provided. 

You are encourage to bring:

• Sketchbook or drawing paper of your choice
• Preferred drawing materials (markers, watercolour, gouache, etc.)

About the live model: 

Nikki Law

Tribal Belly Dancer • Visual Artist • Physical Theatre Performer

For over a decade (2002–2014), Nikki Law was an active performer, instructor and workshop facilitator in Malaysia's Tribal Belly Dance community, performing at arts festivals, cultural events and independent productions.

Unlike the glamorous image often associated with belly dance, Tribal Belly Dance celebrates strength, sisterhood and self-expression. Drawing inspiration from traditional textile arts, jewellery and global folk cultures, it embraces earthy aesthetics, intricate costuming and the philosophy of women's empowerment over performance for spectacle.

Beyond dance, Nikki is also a visual artist and physical theatre performer. She designs and handcrafts many of her own costumes and creates her own stage makeup, viewing every performance as a complete work of visual storytelling.

Today, she returns to Tribal Belly Dance as a live drawing model, inviting artists to explore its rich silhouettes, expressive gestures and striking visual language.
