Mirror – Pangkor Island: Returning to the Essence of Life

Mirror is an art-healing project created by three artists from Macau: ink artist Cindy Ng, and musicians Yaya Lam and Bobo Loi.

During a residency on Pangkor Island, Malaysia, the artists built six relationships with local residents and communities. Each relationship became the starting point for a work of art responding to these encounters.

In this project presentation, Cindy Ng shares her Action Ink Art through live ink creation accompanied by projected visuals documenting the creative journey on the island.

Musicians Yaya Lam and Bobo Loi also participated in the process of building these six relationships. During the residency, they collected environmental sounds, everyday sonic textures, and musical elements related to each encounter. These sound materials were later transformed and integrated into the live sound improvisation during the presentation.

As a result, the sounds heard during the sharing are not merely musical accompaniment, but a sonic memory of the island — voices, nature, and fragments of daily life re-emerging through artistic transformation.

Through the interaction of ink, sound, and moving image, Mirror recreates the emotional landscape of Pangkor Island and reflects on the healing power of human connection.
