This talk roundtable explores Malaysian copyright law as it applies to live performance artists and producers. It covers key protections under the Copyright Act 1987, including rights for scripts, music, choreography, set and costume designs.
Attendees will gain insight into artist and producer rights, licensing processes, and the importance of clear collaboration agreements.
The session also examines the challenges posed by AI-generated content and its implications for copyright ownership. With expert guidance, participants will better understand how to navigate legal requirements while preserving artistic integrity.
This session has been created as a platform to enable discussion, knowledge exchange, and empower art makers, producers, and art managers.

Leysha Al-yahya is an artist, writer, producer and mother. Having worked in both the film and theater industry in all capacities, Leysha’s work revolves around the personal and private as she seeks to understand the world around her. Telling stories of the women she knew and the people she came from, Leysha hopes to add to the future by looking into the past as she attempts to comprehend her future.
A graduate of the University of South Wales with a Degree in Film, Leysha has written and directed six short films with several of them traveling overseas to international film festivals. Her debut short film, Diri (2013), was shortlisted for the BMW Shorties.
