Pentas Seni Merdeka: Ronggeng Melayu

On 12 October 2024, at Jalan Raja, Dataran Merdeka, experience the graceful art of Ronggeng Melayu, presented by the Nusantara Performing Arts Research Center (NusPARC) and Nyala Dance Theatre alongside talented performers. The main-stage will also showcase performances by DBKL Combo and Cultural Artists.

Set against the iconic backdrop of the Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, this year's event will shine a spotlight on ronggeng, a captivating traditional Malay dance born from centuries of cultural confluence in the Straits of Malacca. Historically performed in urban hubs like Penang, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore, ronggeng embodies the harmonious blend of Indigenous, Indian, Arab, Chinese, and Eurasian influences, offering audiences a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Malaysia’s past.
