Majlis Teater Negeri Johor Darul Ta’zim (MTN Johor) ditubuhkan pada 8 Oktober 1996 dan merupakan ahli gabungan kepada Majlis Kebudayaan Negeri Johor. Pendaftaran asalnya ialah ROS 3662/96 (Johor) dan kini berdaftar dengan nombor PPM-004-01-08101996.
Pada awalnya, pusat pengurusan MTN Johor beroperasi di Tingkat 13, Bangunan KOMTAR, Johor Bahru sebelum berpindah ke Blok 60, Unit 1026, Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai. Sejak penubuhannya, MTN Johor aktif bekerjasama dengan Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara (JKKN) Johor dalam menganjurkan Pekan Teater Peringkat Negeri Johor yang bermula pada tahun 1996 hingga kini.
Menjelang tahun 2000, di bawah kepimpinan Tuan Hj. Meraj @ Mohammed Hj. Abd. Jalal, MTN Johor memperkenalkan program Khemah Kerja Teater Sepanjang Tahun untuk melatih jurulatih, pelakon dan tenaga mahir baharu bagi menyokong pembangunan teater negeri bersama agensi seperti JKKN, Yayasan Warisan Johor dan Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (Wilayah Selatan).
Program ini digerakkan oleh Grup Teater KESUMA~I (kini Persatuan Teater KESUMA-i Johor Bahru) sebagai Unit Produksi Pertama MTN Johor, yang terus memainkan peranan penting dalam membimbing kumpulan teater di seluruh negeri hingga ke hari ini.
The Johor State Theatre Council (Majlis Teater Negeri Johor Darul Ta’zim – MTN Johor) was established on 8 October 1996 and is an affiliated member of the Johor State Cultural Council. It was initially registered under ROS 3662/96 (Johor) and is now officially registered under PPM-004-01-08101996.
In its early years, MTN Johor operated from the 13th floor of KOMTAR Building, Johor Bahru, before relocating to Block 60, Unit 1026, Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai. Since its establishment, MTN Johor has actively collaborated with the Department of National Culture and Arts (JKKN Johor) in organizing the Johor State-Level Theatre Festival (Pekan Teater), an initiative that began in 1996 and continues to this day.
By the year 2000, under the leadership of Tuan Hj. Meraj @ Mohammed Hj. Abd. Jalal, MTN Johor introduced the Year-Round Theatre Workshop Camp (Khemah Kerja Teater Sepanjang Tahun) to train new theatre coaches, actors, and skilled practitioners to support the state’s theatre development in partnership with JKKN Johor, Yayasan Warisan Johor, and the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (Southern Region).
The program was spearheaded by Grup Teater KESUMA~I (now known as Persatuan Teater KESUMA-i Johor Bahru) as MTN Johor’s First Production Unit, which continues to play a vital role in guiding and nurturing theatre groups across the state to this day.
