The GACC Chess Championship, one of the most prestigious international chess tournaments in Malaysia, is back for its 26th ‘edition’ — and this time, it’s more inclusive and exciting than ever!
Organised annually by Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College, University of Malaya, the GACC Chess Championship has long been a battlefield for strategic minds from universities around the globe. For the first 19 years, the tournament catered exclusively to undergraduates, becoming a respected name in the chess community.
But in its 20th year, a new chapter began — the doors were opened to the public. The response? Overwhelming. Chess lovers of all backgrounds—students, working adults, and retirees—flocked to compete. And now in 2025, GACC continues its legacy with a powerful message: “Chess for All”.
This year, GACC proudly presents five main events to suit every type of player:

And that’s not all — in line with the theme, “Queen’s Gambit”, GACC 2025 will feature a brand new attraction: the Chess Carnival! This event isn’t just for the players — it’s a celebration of chess for everyone, from curious beginners to seasoned veterans. Packed with fun, games, interactive booths, and surprises, the Chess Carnival aims to bring chess closer to society and spark a new wave of interest in the royal game across Malaysia.
