MYTH (an acronym for Musical Youth Theatre Happening) is a Penang-based musical theatre community production house dedicated to nurturing local talent and fostering a "healthier society" through the performing arts.
Core Identity & Mission
Founded by Dr. Nancy P. Jenster, MYTH began with a niche focus on engaging youth (aged 14 and above). The organization operates on the belief that coaching individuals during their formative years builds the self-esteem and confidence necessary for a thriving community.
While initially youth-centric, MYTH has evolved into a versatile production house known for:
- Original Storytelling: Prioritizing new, locally-written scripts and original music over expensive, licensed imports.
- A "Village" Approach: Emphasizing collaboration between cast, crew, and their families to bring productions to life.
- Social Purpose: Creating "carefully-curated" shows that address meaningful themes such as forgiveness, environmental awareness, and—with A Year to Love—the complexities of mid-life transitions.
Key Leadership
The organization is led by a dedicated team of creatives, often collaborating with seasoned members of the Penang arts scene, including Nancy P. Jenster (Founder/Producer), Beth Webster (Artistic Director), and Joëlle Saint-Arnoult (Costume Design).
