Trained in classical music, he discovered jazz in his teens and later earned a Master’s in Jazz Pedagogy from West Virginia University. As the leader of WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble and a former member of Unit Asia, Tay has toured extensively and produced ten albums of original compositions and arrangements. An award-winning composer, he has scored films, curated festivals, and directed major productions. Passionate about music education, he mentors young musicians, conducts masterclasses, and actively fosters jazz appreciation across the region.
