ETC. Fest 2025: 'The Sound of Music' by DoReMi Production, Universiti Putra Malaysia

SOUND OF MUSIC
The poignant play unfolds with the story of Maria Rainer, a spirited and kindhearted young woman who struggles to adapt to the strict life of the convent. To help her discover her true path, she is sent to work as a governess for the seven children of widowed naval captain Georg von Trapp. At first, Maria faces resistance from the children, who are used to their father’s strict, rule-bound household. But with warmth, patience, and music, she wins their trust and fills their lives with joy.

Through teaching songs, games, and laughter, Maria bridges the distance between the children and their father, helping Captain von Trapp reconnect with the family he had grown distant from after the loss of his wife. As the house fills once again with music, Maria and the Captain also discover a deep affection for one another, leading to a love that blossoms naturally from their shared devotion to the children.

Amid these personal discoveries, the world outside is changing, and difficult choices must be made. But above all, Sounds of Music reminds us that love and music can restore broken spirits, strengthen families, and inspire hope even in uncertain times.
